Boycott Mozilla ?

Aza Dotzler from Mozilla has suggested on his blog that users stop using Google in Firefox and replace their search with Bing from Microsoft (M$FT). What kind of crap is this from a Mozilla Executive? Isn’t Mozilla supposed to be Free Software? It’s already bad enough that they are such fascists over their trademark that any patches require approval or a name change (Iceweasel anyone?).

The announcement from Eric Schmidt of Google is of no surprise. I guess nobody has a high enough IQ to understand the words coming out of his mouth. The United States of Homeland Security monitors every digital communication which occurs on the Internet within the United States. They are watching every msn conversation, every facebook post, every search query (any search engine), every IRC conversation and more. This isn’t conspiracy either, its fact. It’s called the Patriot ACT, It’s called AT&T’s Secret Spy Room (and the ones we don’t know about). It was even recently proven that the CIA was investigating software with features specifically for Data-mining social networks. If you think any company can provide a privacy policy to protect against this, you’re naive.

My theory? It may have to do with the recent announcement of Chrome OS. Mozilla may be worried their cheques from Google are going to dry up and were waiting for any excuse to flirt with Microsoft and its Inferior Bing Search to replace this source of income.

Perhaps it’s just time the community makes its own search engine, based upon the ideals of Free Software and with built in protection for users against tyrannical governments.

PS: I have NOT forgotten about how Microsoft used to bury Linux search results under FUD filled results. I wouldn’t put it past them to resume this behavior if they manage to become #1.
